  2. Greetings from ARRL Headquarters!  The services that the ARRL provides via
  3. the internet include the Technical Information Service and the Automated
  4. Information Server.
  5.  
  6. The Automated Information Server provides information about Amateur Radio
  7. ranging from Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) about the hobby to info
  8. on the current developing technology used in the hobby.  To find out more
  9. about this service, send an e-mail message to info@arrl.org with the subject
  10. line "Request" and the following text in the body of the message:

  12. help                             (for a brief set of instructions)                        
  13. index                            (for a list of available topics)
  14. send PROSPECT.TXT                (or prospect.txt; for info on Ham Radio)
  15. quit
  16.  
  17. NOTE!:  Your message will not be read by a person - this is a software-
  18. driven service that needs to be sent messages of the proper format.
  19.  
  20. NOTE!:  DO *NOT* REPLY TO MESSAGES RECEIVED FROM INFO! - The reply 
  21.         address is redirected to info-serv@arrl.org to prevent errors
  22.         from causing messages "loops".  Write a new message to 
  23.         info@arrl.org instead.

  25. FTP users:  These files are all also available by anonymous FTP from
  26. oak.oakland.edu, in the /pub/hamradio/arrl/infoserver directory.  
  27. Retrieve the file index.txt in the /league subdirectory for a complete
  28. listing of files by directory with descriptions.

  30. In the above message example, "help" retrieves a brief set of instructions
  31. for info, "index" retrieves a list of available topics and "prospect.txt" 
  32. retrieves a text file containing information on becoming a radio amateur.
  33. If you want to retrieve several text files with one message, use a separate
  34. line for each "send filename" request.
  35.  
  36. The Technical Information Service gives internet users access to the 
  37. knowledgeable technical staff here at ARRL HQ.  Questions relating to
  38. Amateur Radio and related technical topics are welcome.  To use this
  39. service, send a normal e-mail message to tis@arrl.org with your question
  40. spelled out in plain english.  For best service, be as specific as possible
  41. and keep your line length in messages to a maximum of 80 characters.

  43. Incoming messages will either be answered by me or redirected to the
  44. appropriate ARRL staff member for a reply.  If you have any questions
  45. about these services, please let me know.
